PRELIMINARY

Preliminary Exam is the gateway for Mains exam. The Subjects of preliminary exam is History, Geography, Polity, Economics etc.
Number of questions in the preliminary exam is 200. The Detailed Syllabus for the Preliminary Exam is given below

MAINS EXAM

Mains Examination is the deciding factor to get into the interview stage. Mains marks and interview marks will be calculated together for overall rankings and services will be allocated based on rankings and preferences given by candidates.

Mains Examination is of Descriptive in nature and it requires an unique approach. The Subjects in the mains exam is History, Social Issues, Polity , Aptitude , Geography , Environment, Economics.
The basic strategy for clearing and getting good score in mains Examination is answer writing practice and also the answers must be inter -related with current affairs.

There are 3 papers

PAPER - I

UNIT- I : Modern history of India and Indian culture

UNIT- II : Social issues in India and Tamil Nadu

UNIT- III : General Aptitude & Mental Ability (SSLC Standard)

PAPER - II

UNIT- I : Indian Polity and emerging political trends across the world affecting India

UNIT- II : Role and impact of Science and Technology in the development of India

UNIT- III : Tamil Society ‐ Its Culture and Heritage

PAPER - III

UNIT- I : Geography of India with special reference to Tamil Nadu

UNIT- II : Environment, Bio Diversity and Disaster Management

UNIT- III : Indian Economy – Current economic trends and impact of global economy on India

Total Marks for the Interview is 100.
Candidates who Cleared the Mains Examination Will be Called for Interview.The Interview Will be held at TNPSC Office in Chennai.
The Interview Panel Comprises of Senior Bureaucrats, Police Officials, Profeesors and Pyschologists. The Interview will last for 20 to 60 minutes. During the Interview Process, the Candidates Personality and emotional intelligence will be tested and the various current issues related to tamilnadu, India and International level will be asked and questions generally will be of opinion based. Most of the questions will be reflected from your past working experiences, academics and details of interest mentioned in resume.
The Candidate must be Confident enough in facing the interview panel.
The interview marks and Mains Examination Marks will be counted together and rankings will be published based on the overall marks.
